1 John 1:8–9, TPT, says; “If we boast that we have no sin, we’re only fooling ourselves and are strangers to the truth. But if we freely admit our sins, when His light uncovers them, He will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ and He will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Christians are subject to sin. However, we now have a new nature and it grieves us to sin. We want to live a righteous life. Does a Christian need to be saved again? If that were true, then there’s no security in Salvation.

Sin is not the focus. A believer has no more consciousness of sin. Both confessed sin and sin we’re unaware of, are forgiven by God. God is the focus, not sin.

Why confess sin? Confessed sin to God finds restoration and unbroken fellowship with God.

Confession does several things: Cleanses the conscience, removes obstacles, acknowledges God’s faithfulness, keeps us humble and away from arrogance or boasting.

Confessed sins doesn’t gain God’s acceptance. God’s acceptance is based on Jesus, belief in Jesus and faith in Who God says He is.

There is no need to confess the same sins, that’s a misunderstanding of Jesus’ blood. However, if a Christian repeatedly commits the same sin, get to the root cause and put that sin to death! “Unrighteousness”, verse 9, refers to sin we’re unaware of. God’s faithfulness sees Christ in a person and Christ paid for ALL sin. If Christians confess sin, then God will do four things: God will demonstrate His faithful love, justify us, forgive every sin and continue a deeper work, cleansing us from all aspects of sins’ defilement.

Romans 4:8, a quote from Psalm 32, says (TPT); “What happy progress comes to them when they hear the Lord speak over them, ‘I will never hold your sins against you!’”

The Greek word LOGIZOMAI means to “take inventory and settle accounts”. God took inventory of Christ’s virtue. Through faith in Jesus, His perfect righteousness is deposited into a believers account! It is settled, we’re declared righteous by faith. A Christian is in a position of right standing because of faith in Christ. His name is Jesus and He saves people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).

"And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of My name. They will speak in tongues. They will be supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous, and they will lay hands on the sick and heal them."
