Is understanding someone an important part of having a healthy relationship? That is, knowing their nature and character? Of course! Well, it’s the same if we want to have a relationship with God.
Adam, his wife Eve and the serpent/satan are engaging in multiple communications: God speaking to Adam, the serpent/satan speaking to Eve, Eve giving fruit to her husband; see Genesis 2 verses 15 – 17 and 3, verses 1 – 6.
What is the subtle statement satan/serpent is saying about God? He infers that 1) God’s not being good to them 2) He’s withholding something from them 3) God didn’t want them to reach their full potential. These are all lies.
Satan comes against the nature and character of God with lies!
There are Bible stories where God seems to be harsh or over-correcting. Old Covenant Law was given to make sin that was committed be exceedingly sinful. The purpose? People don’t realize how deadly sin is AND their actions become an offense against a Holy God.
In Romans 7, verses 11 – 14, Apostle Paul had revelation knowledge on the laws God gave and the behavior they would produce in people.
Committing sin without any consequence lowers people’s standard of holiness. They lose their perspective of what right and wrong is. Can we see this today?
God brought the people back to a correct standard of right living so they would reject the devil’s attempts and recognize the end result of wrong choices is death.
God gave the Law to help us see: 1) What is right/wrong 2) Keeping the Law is difficult 3) We need a Savior! Jesus fulfilled all the Law and the Prophets. Like a good parent, God wants us to be trained in good, correct and healthy ways of living.
