Hindrances to Healing

In the previous teaching, we talked about the fact that it’s God’s will to heal, and that healing is part of the atonement. This begs the question; “Why isn’t everyone healed?” One reason is ignorance: “You shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free” - Jesus (John 8:32). In other words, it’s only the Truth we know that makes us free!

There’s the supreme will of God that very few people throughout history could stop (Moses is an example of one). Then there’s God’s desired will, and this is where we need to cooperate. This is where we (born-again Christians in Jesus) have the authority, power, or a “say-so” in the matter (Mark 16:17 & 18).

People can be ignorant about some of God’s laws. They don’t know how His healing system works, so ignorance is literally killing them! Practicing sin is one of those laws that can either cause us to suffer, or hold us back from receiving health. Included, but not exclusive in “sin” is rebellion, iniquity, hatred, stubbornness, witchcraft, gluttony, drunkenness, adultery, idolatry, gossip, and perversions of every kind.

It’s untrue to say that all sickness is related to sin, but it’s also untrue to say that sin is not one of the factors. “Now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you” - Jesus (John 5:14, NLT).

Our thinking needs to change to where our well-being is based on what Jesus has done for us, our faith in Him and His Word, being led by the Spirit and not by the flesh. There are numerous examples of Jesus telling an individual that “your faith has made you well.”

The negativity and unbelief of people can affect us. Jesus, Who had no limitations, was unable to do many miracles in His hometown because of their unbelief (Mark 6:5 & Matthew 13:58)! It’s God’s will to heal everyone all the time, but He will not move against our own will.

God is faithful. It is His will for us to be healed, but we have to learn how to cooperate with Him. He cannot do it for us. God has to do it through us; it comes from the inside, manifesting out into the physical realm.
