Is healing controversial because –
Your congregation doesn’t teach this?
You think healing depends on you?
When is it God’s will?
What’s my part, God’s part?
Let’s define “Salvation” or “to save”, translated “sozo” in Greek, which means: Deliverance from (material, or temporal danger, suffering, sickness); Spiritual and eternal salvation granted by God; God’s power to deliver from sin; Future deliverance of believers at the Second Coming; Deliverance of Israel; All the blessings bestowed by God to believers in Christ.
Today we’re honing in on sozo as it pertains to sickness, needing healing. Miraculous healing is a demonstration of the Gospel. Healing is just as much a part of what Jesus came to accomplish as forgiveness of sins.
Matthew 9: Healing is connected to faith in Jesus. A paraplegic man is lowered into the room from the roof! Jesus perceiving strong faith says, “My son, be encouraged, for your sins have been forgiven.” Then He commands; “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk home.” Immediately the man sprang to his feet, and left for home.
Later, a man kneels before Jesus, begging, “Help me! My daughter has just died. Please, come and place Your hand upon her so that she will live again!” On the way – a woman comes behind Jesus touching the tassel of His prayer shawl. (The blue tassel on the corner represents all the commands and promises of God. “Fringe” or “border” in Hebrew can also mean “wing”, as in “healing in His wings” from Malachi 4:2). Jesus says, “My daughter, be encouraged. Your faith has healed you.”
Entering the man’s home, Jesus sees a mourning crowd, and tells them, “You must leave, for the little girl is not dead; she’s only asleep.” Going back to the girl, He takes her hand, and she stands to her feet! Faith was there in the father; unbelief was in the mourners, that’s why they had to go!
Two other accounts in Matthew 9 – restoring sight to the blind, and speech to a deaf-mute. This is “sozo” or Salvation in action! Check out the four Gospels, Acts, and the letters for more encouragement. Marinate on what we have studied thus far, then I’ll be back for Part 2!
“Happy Mother’s Day” to all women who extend the healing ministry of Christ.
I’m celebrating my 6 th year with Positively Haywood, and thank you for your support of our ministry!
