In our study of “God’s NOT Guilty” we learned God’s not responsible for all that happens in the world and His will is not always done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

There’s evil in the world and it’s our daily choice whether we follow God or satan.

Born-again believers have the Holy Spirit living inside. He is the Spirit of Truth, of Jesus Christ, of God the Father, and He is God! A believer’s spirit is sealed with the Holy Spirit upon conversion and our body becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit. Our soul (mind, will and emotions) needs to be renewed daily with the Word. Then our body follows our spirit and soul.

There’s a difference between the Holy Spirit igniting our spirit upon salvation and being baptized in the Holy Spirit. Upon salvation, our spirit switches kingdoms from darkness to Light. Then, our old self is technically “dead.” A Christian must be old enough to understand what has taken place, then we openly rejoice and celebrate this conversion by water baptism.

Mark 16:15-16 (also Matthew 28:19-20) Jesus instructs; “As you go into all the world, preach openly the wonderful news of the gospel to the entire human race! Whoever believes the good news and is baptized will be saved, and whoever does not believe the good news will be condemned.”

So, we conclude that it is a believers’ responsibility to tell the good news of the gospel to everyone, make disciples of new believers and to baptize. Is this water baptism or baptized with the Holy Spirit? John 1:33 gives the answer: “Before this I (John) didn’t know Who He (Jesus) was but the One Who sent me to baptize with water had told me, ‘You will see the Spirit come down and stay on Someone. He will be the One I have sent to baptize with the Holy Spirit.’”

Can you see the distinction? John baptized with water people who repented of sin. Only Jesus can baptize us with the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands.

Acts 1:4-5 quotes Jesus speaking of Pentecost; “Don’t leave Jerusalem, but wait here until you receive the gift I told you about, the gift the Father has promised. For John baptized you in water, but in a few days from now you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit!”

Jesus Himself makes the distinction between water baptism and receiving the gift. Why a “gift”? Because Holy Spirit’s a powerful force in a Christian’s life, not to be taken lightly!

"And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of My name. They will speak in tongues. They will be supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous, and they will lay hands on the sick and heal them."
