Did you know that God's not guilty of everything that happens? This could be a controversial topic because many people, including born-again believers, think that God is responsible for everything that happens in our lives and in the world.
So, we are going to study several Scriptures and find out what the Truth is.
Starting at the beginning in the 1st book of the Bible, Genesis, chapter 1, verses 26
– 28. I’ll be reading from the Amplified version: “Then God said, ‘Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.’ So, God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created
them. And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, ‘Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.’”
So, we see right here at the beginning that mankind is made in God’s image; this includes a free will to choose.
We also were given complete authority, power or dominion over the fish, birds,
cattle, and the entire earth including everything that creeps and crawls.
So, you have authority over the creeps in your life!
We also know that Adam and Eve chose to listen to the serpent, fulfill their own
desires and were disobedient to God when they ate the fruit God told them NOT
to eat.
Was it God’s fault they ate this fruit?
Of course not! It was their choice to either listen to God or listen to the serpent.
In the book of Jacob/James, chapter 1 and verses 13 – 17, Jacob tells us: “When you are tempted don’t ever say, ‘God is tempting me,’ for God is incapable of being tempted by evil and He is never the source of temptation. Instead, it is each person’s own desires and thoughts that drag them into evil and lure them away into darkness. Evil desires give birth to evil actions. And when sin is fully mature it can murder you! So, my friends, don’t be fooled by your own desires! Every gift God freely gives us is good and perfect, streaming down from the Father of lights, Who shines from the heavens with no hidden shadow or darkness and is never subject to change.”
We can see from this passage that when we are tempted, the temptation comes
from the evil one and NOT from God.
God gives good and perfect gifts.
Nothing hidden, nothing changing.
So, then it becomes our choice – will we or won’t we follow our lustful desires?
If you are a born-again believer in Jesus, you have a new nature and your spirit
has gone from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light.
It is easier for us who are true Christians to resist the devil, his temptations and
continue to follow after God.
Now, let’s read from The Passion Translation the book of John, chapter 10 and
verse 10. Jesus speaking says; “A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect — life in its fullness until you overflow!”
Does this verse line up with what we have learned so far?
Evil seeks to take from you.
God seeks to give good to you.
It’s our choice as to what we will go after.
How do we make a right choice in the face of temptation?
Well, let’s go back to the book of Jacob/James, chapter 4 and verse 7. Just before this verse, Jacob is explaining how God is like a jealous lover. God doesn’t want us to be a “friend of the world”. God intensely desires to have more and more of us so He can pour out more and more of His grace upon us when we are humble and not proud.
In The Passion Translation he says; “So then, surrender to God. Stand up to the devil and resist him and he will flee in agony.”
Please see the sequence here – it’s VERY important!
Number 1 – We surrender to God, that is we yield to Him when the temptation
comes. That requires humbling ourselves, realizing we need God’s help.
Number 2 – We stand up to the devil, speak out loud and tell him off! Laugh at him, tell him he’s a loser!
Number 3 – We resist the devil, that is we push him back or actively fight against him and he will flee.
You have to be rough with the tempter.
He hates you and wants to destroy you any way he can.
Worse yet is if he is putting his evil upon you and you blame God! This is NOT
true!
When people believe everything that happens in life is totally from God, that puts
them in the position of being passive.
I hope you are starting to see that certain things are of God and certain things are
of the devil and people do NOT always choose God’s will!
For example:
Do you think it is God’s will that all people repent and enjoy the Salvation Father
God has provided through Jesus Christ His Son? Are all people enjoying this Salvation? Why not? Is it God’s fault?
The same is true for bad things that happen in our world – whether it be harming
people and animals, rigging votes or any number of dishonest and evil actions. These are NOT of God and He does NOT control us because we are made in His image with a free will to choose.
Turn with me now to the book of Romans, chapter 8 and verse 28. This may be
familiar to you. In The Passion Translation it reads: “So, we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together for good, for we are His lovers who have been called to fulfill His designed purpose.”
Now, just before this verse, the Apostle Paul is explaining the relationship between hope, desires, Holy Spirit and Father God.
God knows our heart and our longings and He also knows the desires of Holy Spirit Who operates in perfect harmony with God’s plans to fulfill our destiny.
Remember I’ve mentioned that there are books in Heaven?
There is a book in Heaven that is the life story God wants to give you.
He encourages you all the time to fulfill your destiny.
God does this through Holy Spirit and the angelic.
They put you in the right place at the right time if you are willing!
We have a choice to go and do or not to.
Let’s take a closer look at what this verse, Romans 8:28 is really saying: The details of the lives that are woven for good are for the people who are lovers of God.
In addition, the lovers of God realize that they are or have been called to fulfill
God’s designed purpose.
Even so, people have a choice whether or not to follow through with “their call”.
For Example:
I had a choice whether or not to put this Bible study on YouTube and this blog. If I chose not to, you would not be listening to or reading this today. But I love God and recognized that this was something He was asking me to do. So, here I am!
Please understand that God does not control everything in our lives.
There’s God, the devil and us.
We have the opportunity to choose correctly or not.
