This Father's Day, we acknowledge that fatherhood is not an easy job. Rich with examples, our Bibles serve as inspiration, guidance, or warnings for instructing children in the LORD. Proverbs 22:6 (NKJ) “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” And Ephesians 6:4 (TPT) warns; “Fathers, don’t exasperate your children, but raise them up with loving discipline and counsel that brings the revelation of our Lord.”

Qualities to Aim for:

Integrity – Proverbs 20:7 (NLT) “The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.”

Compassion – Psalm 103:13 (ESV) “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear Him.”

Instructs – Proverbs 1:8 & 9 (ESV) “Hear, my son, your father’s instruction . . . for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.”

Generosity – John 3:16 (TPT) “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”

Faith – (includes) acceptance, embracing truth, and inner confidence.

Provides – Philippians 4:19 (NLT) “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”

WARNING – 1 Timothy 5:8 (NKJV) “But if anyone does not provide for his own and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

Disciplines – Proverbs 22:15 (TPT) “Although rebellion is woven into a young man’s heart, tough discipline can make him into a man.”

Wisdom – Proverbs 23:24 (ESV) “The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.”

Biblical Father Types and Their Qualities:

Joseph – Jesus’ Earthly father; a step-dad, treated Jesus as his own.

Zechariah – John the Baptizer’s father; set John apart, taught survival skills, and Scriptures!

Jairas – father to a dying child; entreated Jesus for healing.

Apostle Paul – mentor to Timothy, his son in the faith.

Loving Father, Luke 15:11 – 32; welcomes a wayward child.

Knowing these Scriptures, and others, will help ensure a desired outcome. Training and

discipling grandchildren is also encouraged! To know and experience the ultimate Daddy, ask the Lord Jesus Christ into your life. “No one can come to the Father except through Me” – Jesus (John 14:6).

"And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of My name. They will speak in tongues. They will be supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous, and they will lay hands on the sick and heal them."
